Papua New Guinea - Supermarket Project
Background
Papua New Guinea currently faces major social challenges caused by unemployment, juvenile crime, corruption and an HIV-AIDS epidemic. Currently young Papua New Guineans who fail to complete schooling are at high risk of falling into crime and anti social behaviour due to a lack of skills and training opportunities available to them.Project Overview
Mustard Seed Global is looking to launch social enterprises in the form of financially viable supermarkets in the major centres of PNG (starting in Port Moresby). These supermarkets aim to enrich and enable local communities by providing training/employment opportunities for young Papua New Guineans, and a consistent stream of funding for development projects. The supermarkets will be stocked with locally grown produce, generic brand goods (Black and Gold) imported from Australia and a changing selection of cheaply priced merchandise.
